ARTIST CONTRIBUTORS: In Depth Detail
Okay, interested so far? If you want to contribute a design, here is the setup. As you read above, there is a colony of humans from Earth with their battle technology, but keep in mind they have been exposed to advanced alien technology. So the cool angle here is thinking about Earth’s different nations and their current (2007) and historical characteristic technology, and imagining what it would be like in the future with advanced modifications. For example, currently the American military is working on the electromagnetic propulsion cannon, which instead of gun powder (rapidly expanding air), the projectile is propelled by a series highly charged magnets. There is very little sound and no mussel flash, and the velocity is much greater. The problem however, is that it takes huge heavy batteries, not able to be mobile. Therefore imagine for a tank for EF1, a futuristic body and a magnetic based canon for the primary weapon. What would the barrel and turret look like? Maybe check on-line or something for reference.
Choose A Nation or Particular Hardware You Like
The design should inspire you, so perhaps if you are Russian, you would like to design a futuristic Russian jet fighter. Maybe you are not Russian, but you have always liked the way the Mig fighters look. Whatever it is, it should inspire you. The EF1 story is about Earth forces uniting together, all on one team, putting all differences aside for the good of all of Earth. In the EF1 colony there is some strife, but mostly friendly competition and cooperation. All past wars and differences are completely obliterated by the knowledge that a much greater threat to their survival is upon them, and there is total realization by all humans that there is no time to fight amongst themselves.
Setting
The setting for the colony is a small planet fourth in its solar system called Britokus, about half the size of Earth. The planet was chosen by the advanced aliens because it is rich in ores ideal for extraction and manufacturing of machines. It is mostly a big orange and black rock, with an artificial atmosphere provided by the advanced aliens.
What Will Happen With Your Design?
Accepted submissions will be reviewed after suggested changes, and added to a page at the EF1 site. They will be kept on file to be used in the creation of the EF1 episodes. Realize there is no guarantee of successful business venture, or even full development of the pilot or manga, but if there is, you will surely be contacted about it. Thanks for helping defend the universe! Any suggestions, comments, or contributions of other sorts welcome!
For payment and exclusive/disclosure rights:
• Submit a design
any way you like, from pencil to 3D model via email, including your full name
and full contact info.
• Expect not to be paid anytime soon, however if the project becomes
financially successful, key contributors will be paid accordingly, fairly,
and as we are able to keep it running.(I, Rick Bruce will make sure of it.)
• Designs will not be used without artist’s permission, passed
to others, stolen, trolled, etc. We’re 100% ligit here, no scams, no
spam. Just like passion artists having a blast!
• EF1 will not hold exclusive rights to any designs you offer, (unless
we get a different deal going and you agree, etc.), so you can use submitted
designs for whatever else you want, and also submit designs you used for other
things.
• All artists will receive full credit for their contributions, and
email receipt for your design.
Submit your design or
progress and I will respond with comments and or acceptance into the EF1 art
pool. Realize it may take a while for anything, if at all, to come to production,
so do not be offended if nothing happens for a while, because that is the
unfortunate nature of business in this world; everything takes forever.
IMPORTANT: Realize that coming up with an original cool design is VERY hard,
and so more than likely you will receive comments for improvement before it
is accepted. This is the normal process for arriving at excellence. I realized
in my thinking that there is no point in doing it unless designs are quality,
and quality takes time, dedication, and doing it over until it's right. Low
quality crap that people crank out quickly to make money is forgotten quickly
also, and has no passionate following. This is what the makers of Macross
understood, and why it the legend it is today.
Check the “Piloted Mech Challenge” page for some thoughts on designing battloids.

Robotech Interest: Anime Project
LOOKING FOR LIKE
INTEREST PEOPLE
By Artist Rick Bruce
Rick Bruce here, I’ve been toying with the idea for a team of like interest
artists to collaborate on a cool Robotech type project. I say Robotech (Macross)
because it’s a lightning rod for the interest type I’m looking
for, but we want to create something original, of course. The whole point
is to have a blast with other like interest people creating something cool
in the passion type of anime, battloids, and high tech sci-fi. I have a story
in mind for an anime television pilot to pitch to Harmony Gold, (for which
I have an in, I’ve met Carl Macek and got a tour of Intersound where
the English soundtrack was cut). The grouping of artists can be for more than
just that. I like the idea of the CLAMP group, (four Japanese girls who got
together and just started cranking out tons of cool stuff), but larger with
more people would be cool.
There are plenty of problems with collaboration, from interest type to legal issues, but to define what I’m thinking here, is that if you have people with genuine passion for high tech sci-fi anime, we can always be on a contact list for each other for various projects, or anything. In particular, the lightning rod I mentioned, Robotech, should be something you really love, and you would love to work on a project in that genre, (but also titles like anything Shirow, Voltron, Tenchi, Bubblegum Crisis, Aliens, Star Wars… and similar high intelligence, deep science fiction.)

PROJECT
A contiguous half hour television series: “EF1" or “Earth Force One”. Story: “Humans are abducted from Earth to fight in an alien war.” A scourge of monster aliens horrible beyond imagining have made their bid for universal domination, and no civilized beings in the universe are safe. A united coalition of aliens (such as “grays” with flying saucers) who possess ultra-advanced technology have not been able defeat the oncoming horde; The Shurogoth (alien tongue for ‘demon insects’): dark creatures that use mysterious technology for the most ruthless warfare. The Shurogoth commitment to domination is so extreme they evolved their race to a perfected physicality for war and ultra aggressive nature. As a result, they transformed into monsters devoid of compassion or fear, using unimaginable horror to paralyze their enemies.
Hue Stience, a freelance programmer, is abducted and sent to a far away portion of the universe where he discovers a long standing colony of humans and other creatures serving in the great war. Hue is surprised at the variety of people in the camp, including Earth military from technology producing countries such as America, Germany, Japan, Britain, Russia, Israel, and France. With the help of more advanced aliens, the humans and other less advanced races have built a variety of hybrid war machines with amazing capabilities. Still with these advanced machines, Hue is shocked to discover the “sub-advanced beings” are little more than a diversion while the elite aliens perform military missions, and those elite-class missions are rather “attack and run like hell”, with sparse effect on the dark force.
Despair and fear are pervasive in the Earth colony, but Hue finds himself embroiled in developments which cause a major upset in the war, and a radical idea paired with death defying tenacity spark an unexpected result. It could be a ray of hope, or it could lead the dark horde to back to Earth...
WHERE YOU THE CONTRIBUTING ARTIST COMES IN
The concept for EF1 is based on having lots of cool design crammed into the story presentation, so we are looking for designs from a variety of artists. The primary focus is on machines, or mecha as it is known in anime, but also character, fashion, and architecture designs are welcome. The point is to continually gather cool designs and implement them as we go along, even base episodes on them.

OPENING SCENE: ALSO TELEVISION OPENING CREDIT THEME (FOLLOWED BY HARD, GLORIOUS
ROCK)
SCENE: A television screen is shown with a news broadcast in progress. The news channel is “TGK News”. A news castor in gray suit is talking with “Breaking News” in computer title next to him.
NEWS CASTOR RIAN RIGEMAN
We now have Breaking news. Sources at NASA and the space transmission research
center STRC, as well as SETI confirm the first known interstellar transmission
has been received, and get this: it not only appears to be human, but in English!
Several sources we interviewed have confirmed that indeed the transmission
is coming from outer space, however they do not rule out the possibility that
this is an elaborate hoax. The transmission has some static is broken up in
some places. Here it is in its entirety, you be the judge.
Scene: Transmission is both played on the audio, and written out next to the
news castor on screen.

Records show US Airforce Lieutenant Ben Singer was reported lost at sea, January
25th, 1943. His brother Jay Singer interviewed earlier:
Scene: News shows old man.
JAY SINGER
If it’s not him, it sure sounds like him, I mean, like I remember him.
Frankly I don’t know what to think, but I listened to it over and over,
and I’m beginning to think it’s the real thing. Anyway, can’t
hurt to do what he says. Even without some kind of alien invasion, we do have
bigger problems than each other, and we should focus on developing technology
and raising ourselves to a higher level.
Scene: News show fades, then music: Hard rock, (Like “Nobody’s Fool” by Cinderella,)credits, scenes from series (animation).

****************
SCENE: Near future Earth, Northern California: Freelance hacker Hue Stience, a young robust man with long black wavy hair and light olive complexion rides his motorcycle on a canyon road.
HUE
(Thinking)
That was a bastard of a gig. I’m glad to be done with it. I hate all
that intrigue. I don’t want to be known as the espionage repair man.
I just like numbers. Programming is my passion, not cracking DSI codes and
worming foreign banks. Suppose it could be worse, like working for the military.
Egad!
Still though, got my check to relax a little for a while. I like my life simple.
No family to worry about, no responsibility. I’m just a free wheel’in
dude with a little hole in the wall to crash in at night, and a bike to cruz
around. Yeah, I like it. Free, untied, not some damn heavy laden guy sweating
each paycheck, his wife complaining, his kids gotta have this and that…
Whew! Not for me man. Heaven is the open road, a bag of weed, and nothing
to do but…
Scene: Hue catches something out of the corner of his eye, a shape in the sky. He blinks, not believing what he just saw. The shape (a UFO) is gone from his view as though it had not been there.
HUE
What?!
Suddenly as he turns around a corner, a large truck appears in front of him,
making a wide turn and coming into his lane. There is no time to stop and
nowhere to go. He swerves to his right, and his motorcycle hits the side rail.
The bike flips over, and they both go hurtling over a two hundred plus foot
cliff drop. His body hurls though the air as he sees the sure death below
him.
HUE
Fuuuuuuuuuuuuuu... !!!!
Hue feels his body suddenly hit something, and a flash of metal flits across
his vision. He feels his body being suspended by some invisible force, and
he claws violently in the air while looking down at his motorcycle as it falls
to the bottom of the canyon below. He whirls his head and sees a bright rectangle
of light behind him. He yells in terror, and his vision and consciousness
slip away from him.
